This 8-week program will provide you with the skills employers are looking for! Graduate with a clear understanding of a General Labourer role with training around safe work practices, general operations, basic construction, health & safety certifications, employability training and math refresher. Opportunities for employment can be found in many different sectors or environments, such as construction and manufacturing.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Reading a schematic drawing and basic blueprint
- Problem-solving process
- Introduction to Welding and Fabrication
- Identifying different trade materials and supplies
- Proper material handling and storage for trade materials and supplies
- Proper tool and equipment care
- Inventory control
- Trades Introduction including construction, electrical, welding
- General labour roles and responsibilities in various fields
- Health & Safety in the trades
- Proper identification of materials
- Use of hand tools, power tools and equipment used in various trades
- Tape measure – how to accurately use and read
- General framing and installation guidelines
- Access structures and ladder use
- Identifying trade processes
- Access to shop space

ELIGIBILITY:
- Unemployed
- Reside in Cornwall/SDG/Akwesasne (ON)
- Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Confirmed Refugee
- Not enrolled in any other training or educational program
- Must meet one of the following:
- Experience a self-identified disability OR
- Be 30 years of age or younger
