Office Assistant Healthcare

TRAINING

Training delivered by St Lawrence College to help prepare job seekers for work as an office assistant, front desk clerk, administrative assistant or receptionist. Training will include topics such as office procedures: scheduling appointments, interviewing clients, completing forms such as OHIP and WSIB, billing, maintaining confidential files, preparing and distributing meeting agendas and minutes. Courses will also include medical terminology, math for the workplace and computers such as MS Office, Internet and medical record software.

Certifications:
WHMIS and Health & Safety Awareness

Pre-employment and soft skills:
Topics such as communication skills, decision-making, problem-solving, conflict resolution, self-management, team building, resume writing, job search techniques, interview preparation and success in the workplace will be covered.

EOTB will assist participants in securing employment upon completion of the training. Employers will receive a wage subsidy of approximately $10/hr for up to 35 hours per week for 12 weeks. Ongoing coaching is provided to assist with the transition to employment.

EOTB will purchase training on behalf of eligible candidates. Financial assistance may be available for items such as daycare and work attire.

  • Not in full-time education or training
  • Legally entitled to work in CanadaANDExperience a self-identified disability and not be in receipt of EI
